Tutor Cleo Harrington

Cleo Harrington graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1992 and her hand drawn animated films were screened on Channel 4 and the BBC as well as UK Film festivals. Cleo works as an illustrator and founded her own Arts company in 2007. She has been teaching for over 18 years in colleges and a diverse range of community settings within England. At RHACC she teaches Drawing & Creative Collage.

After graduating in Graphic Design and Illustration Delyth Jones worked as an illustrator for books, magazines and product packaging.  Her career later took a change of direction and she began working in ceramics, later moving to teaching pottery, including hand building techniques and throwing.

Her smoke fired ceramic sculptures are influenced by historic interpretations of animals inspired directly by her experience of life on the family farm in North Wales. Her illustrated glazed work encompasses farm animals, wild animals and the wider natural world.

Emma Johnstone - Ceramics Tutor

I first learned the ancient Japanese technique of raku – 楽, meaning enjoyable, comfort, ease – in Jerusalem. I fell in love with its technical demands and aesthetic intensity, and have been on a journey into its possibilities ever since. My work explores the tension between this dramatic, intense, and fast firing technique and the aesthetic possibilities of elemental qualities and shapes.

Kim has been working with clay for over 10 years and is a talented and creative professional who is extremely passionate about pottery, surface pattern design and ceramics. It was in Stoke-On-Trent, the home of the Potteries, that Kim completed her Master’s degree along with her teacher training in the subjects of art, design and art history. Kim’s work focuses mostly on surface pattern design, but she also loves hand-building and prefers making practical and functional ceramics.

Kirsty studied glass and painting at Edinburgh College of Art and has worked for a range of London art consultants, galleries and glass studios. She teaches on a range of courses at RHACC and spends the rest of her time creating glass artworks for architecture.

I have studied ceramics since 1989 and majored in ceramics for my degree. I also studied mosaics and photography during my degree. I started working for RHACC in 1998, teaching Pottery for the Family for a number of years before moving on to teach adults only in evening classes in 2003. I also work extensively in the community and run art workshops in community centres and care homes – sheltered, residential and extra care – teaching ceramics, mosaics, painting and other crafts.

Manos Kalamenios is teaching Mouldmaking, Slipcasting, Surface decoration and Masterclass in Colour & Ceramics. Manos prior to ceramics he worked for 14 years as a Chef in hotels and resorts such as the Four Seasons hotels with a degree in culinary arts, but his great passion is ceramics. What started as a part time study in Art & Design in 2006 led up to a first-class BA in Fine Art with honours in 2012 and then a graduate with a Masters in Ceramics & Glass from the Royal College of Art in 2016. He is an active practicing ceramicist with his own studio.
