Our ESOL and EFL courses are for people who want to learn or improve their English skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Step Into English will help you to get started on the best learning programme for you.

You will meet our teachers and discuss your learning needs. We will help you to choose the right courses to achieve your goals.

How to Enrol:

STEP 1

  • Assess your skills: this will take about 1 hour you can come and do this in our Learner Resource Centre, at any time during opening times.
  • Step into English 1: you will meet our teachers and plan your individual learning programme. Bring your Assess your skills results along.

    You can also come into the college before the day to book your course or just come along early on the day to 'Assess your skills' before the course starts.

STEP 2

  • Step into English 2: you will start learning and find out all you need to know about learning at RACC, to be ready for your course

Price: prices vary, courses are free for some learners. Please ask at reception.

Entry Requirements:

Before coming to Step Into English you need to have assessed your current English skills in our learning centre.

You can do this at any time the College is open. It will take up to an hour, or longer for higher level learners.

No previous knowledge or experience of learning English is necessary.

Course Content:

Step Into English will help you to get started on the right learning programme.
You will meet our teachers and discuss your individual learning needs one-to-one. We will help you to identify the right courses to help you achieve your goals.
We will tell you what you need to know to be a successful ESOL or EFL learner at RACC.

After this course ESOL learners can start learning on a ‘Step into ESOL’ workshop. We’ll get you started learning English and you’ll learn how to be a successful ESOL learner at RACC.
ESOL and EFL learners will progress onto our wider programme of ESOL or EFL courses by enrolling at reception and paying the course fees.

1. Are ESOL Courses Free?
ESOL courses are co-funded by the Skills Funding Agency for eligible learners. Eligible learners pay the fees listed. Learners receiving Jobseekers allowance can learn for free. Learners at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 are expected to work towards a national qualification in ESOL and take exams.

2. I don’t speak any English, can I bring someone with me to ‘Know Your ESOL Level’?
Yes, you are very welcome to bring a friend or supporter.
